| 1. I'd recommend natural, ideally soft, lighting, i.e. from a window with no direct sunlight. This is flattering whether the subject is pregnant or not. You really need a tripod for natural light shots to be properly sharp. 2. A plain background to emphasize your wife and her bump. 3. Side lighting to show the curvature of the tummy. You could also try putting the light source further back so you get a bit of rim lighting round the tummy. 4. Try a few silly shots by drawing a face on the bump with the belly button as a nose. 5. How about getting arty by photographing just the shadow of the bump or whole body against a plain wall? You'll obviously need strong, direct light for this. 6. Finally, you could do a shot of her on the bathroom scales shot from above so the toes stick out from under the tummy. A general bit of advice: Get everything planned and ready in advance. She won't be happy holding an uncomfortable pose while you fiddle about with camera controls and positioning. Hope this helps and good luck in February... |

| But if the possible female has been with the males, then she is most likely pregnant. In a couple of weeks she will drop fry. If there are plants for the fry to hide in, if the platies are well fed and there are no other predators in the tank, you will become a platy "grandparent". They know though. ;) Try shining a flashlight from behind her. "She" is light colored enough that you may be able to see developing fry within her gravid spot. It could be a busy spring for you! |
